Character designs and vizdev for a transmedia project (video game and animation) developed by indie collective Round 5.
The main subject of the project was the hybrid sport called Chessboxing, which literaly mixes boxing with chess (go google it, it's very interesting).
I was hired to work in the early stage of development, back in 2022. The project was intended to feature a cartoon artstyle, and I developped two different directions for the characters: one semi-realistic, and one clearly more cartoony.
Several characters were heavily "inspired" by real persons, including Dutch performance artist Iepe Rubingh - the latter would have been an arbiter, dressed as a jester, in the video game.
